Does forex conversion rate vary for brand of card within the same bank?
Is it possible for BDO to charge foreign currency expenses differently based on the brand of card used? According to the general credit card table of fees & charges “assessment rate of 1% plus service fee of 1.5% of the converted amount based on the forex rate of visa/mastercard/etc and BDO at the time of posting”, while the amex table says “a conversion factor of 2.5% will be applied to the converted amount, of which 1% is retained by amex”. Are they different or are they essentially the same thing just worded differently? Thank you.
Transferring to friend's local bank account in local currency but need to convert from another currency first. Which rate to look at?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask. finance doesn't look like exact place to ask too. I want to ask help from a friend who is currently working in neighbor country to help me buy something. Then I will pay him back by transferring to his bank account in my country. So I need to convert the currency and not sure which one should I look at. Looking at bank FOREX rate, there is Selling TT/OD, Buying TT, Buying OD, Selling Notes, Buying Notes rate. I'm thinking I should be looking at Buying TT rate. Is that correct? Because I'm buying that currency?(?)
Any bank/forex place that changes less common currency (e.g. South African Rand) at a decent rate?
In general, you can find tons of legitimate places that do USD/EURUB, and occasionally PLN/CHF that are right on the street at very competitive rates (even better than Monobank at times). However, I was wondering if anyone know banks/forex places that do less common currencies so as so to avoid multiple currency conversion while traveling (ZAR->USD->UAH) or the other way around? Thanks in advance!
I am a fledgling Indian writer on Amazon kindle store. My first royalties came in today .The exchange rate is 58.52 versus 61.2-61.5 prevailing. I understand that bank forex rates are different from what you see on screen and there is a conversion fee too . I am already losing 15% on account of Tax withholding. Should i open a USD account and then negotiate better conversion rates ? Is it correct to expect that with bigger numbers say 2000 usd , they'll be in a position to give a better rate for me in terms of reduced conversion charges? If there is any other way, please advise.
Yet Another Banker Jumps to His Death: There is an even deeper pattern behind the seemingly discrete stories of gold repatriation, rehypothecation, LIBOR and FOREX rigging, the London Gold rate, and alleged central bank whistleblowers.
Forex: Bank of Canada raises key interest rate to 1%.
As I know a small number of this sub is Canadian, let's discuss the fact that the CAD has appreciated roughly 11% since May. I personally do not think this was a wise move by BoC but it had to do something to respond to the 4.5GDP and clearly states that more rate raises are on the way in 2017 & 2018. . The housing markets in major metropolitan cities such as Vancouver and Toronto are already over stimulated to say the least and the amount of personal debt is going up. This recent raise of 0.5% will add an additional cost of $2500/year to a $500k mortgage. I unfortunately get paid in USD and hold me entire retirement plans, savings and investment account in USD, so do not enjoy the future outlook. Anyone with forex knowledge want to weigh in on where they see the CAD/USD going? "By the end of 2018 bank economists (they know everything) say rates will be a full 1% higher. That puts the prime at almost 4%, HELOCs at 4.5%, personal lines at 6% and five-year fixed mortgages around 4%. Combined with the universal stress test requiring an extra 2% insurance, borrowers in late 2018 will be applying for home loans at an effective rate of 6%." The above seems to be the consensus from numerous articles I have read today. Chime in with your thoughts.
Ruby Card is pointless for fiat topups in australia.
So i made a post a few weeks back about the top up structure here and it was met with some pretty heavy resistance of people saying there was no fee's for topping up with fiat. I have now received my card and want to inform everyone that there IS TOP UP FEEs at least in australia. There is a 1% fee for using a credit card to top up, so that's 1% cashback gone and then since you can only initially buy the currency in Singapore dollars rather then australian your bank will seem to charge you extra for that too. If i put $100 AUD worth of fiat in my topup for my card, i pay $106.40 and the exchange rate is 102 AUD for $100 SPD. So if i use this for fiat i'm litrally losing money everytime i want to use this, not to mention CRO price is tanking so i'm losing even more money from the cashbacks. This may actually be the most pointless card for the australian market, it's only benefit is to just get it and only use it for spotify rebate. I tried the revolut work around but it doesn't seem to work anymore. HIGHLY DISAPOINTED!!
Holy shit! Swiss National Bank intervenes via FOREX markets, targets rate at 1.20
This is a huge move in FOREX terms http://i.imgur.com/NL6kL.png (Reuters) - The Swiss National Bank said on Tuesday it would set a minimum exchange rate target of 1.20 francs to the euro and would enforce it by buying foreign currency in unlimited quantities. Following are analysts' comments on the move. "Dollayen has moved higher in a knee-jerk reaction, in line with a rise in risky assets in the wake of the SNB's move. "That may come down to an expectation that we're going to see global policymakers reciprocate . and that this may represent the leading edge of a stronger response. But I think that those expectations are misplaced. "What Swiss policymakers are doing won't be a concern to Japanese policymakers. I think that any expectation that this is a leading indicator for Japanese policy is misplaced. "It's not to say we don't anticipate additional easing by the Bank of Japan . But that's a function of the domestic economy, it's not a function of what people are doing elsewhere." Edit: adding comments from article: JEREMY COOK, CHIEF ECONOMIST, WORLD FIRST, LONDON "That was the single largest foreign exchange move I have ever seen. The Swiss franc has lost close on 9 percent in the past 15 minutes. This dwarfs moves seen post Lehman brothers, 7/7, and other major geo-political events in the past decade. "The Swiss have had enough and have said today that they are willing to buy foreign currencies in 'unlimited amounts'. This is intervention on a grand scale. "This turns up the heat on the euro zone and other economies who have benefited from weakening their currency in the past couple of years."
Hello lovely people from Singapore! I am hoping someone can offer some advice ... I live in the US and would like to purchase something from someone in Singapore. They do not have PayPal and I do not have PayLah. Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer money to a PayLah account from another account outside of Singapore? It’s a small amount, less than S$50.
I'm interested in investing in the US stock market but feel safer investing in an index fund rather than in individual stocks. Does anyone have experience investing in USD UITFs with BPI or BDO? Particularly BPI INVEST U.S. EQUITY INDEX FEEDER FUND, which tracks the S&P500.. Is it any different from investing in the PSE index version? I usually subscribe and redeem via the app or the website, is this also possible for the USD UITFs? If I have a USD account, is it as simple as the Peso UITFs?
Sending investment money internationally; from USA to Brazil
Does anybody have experience with sending investment money (~$50k-$150k) from the USA to Brazil. What transfer service to use (i noticed that BofA has significantly lower exchange rate from Reuters)? What would be tax implication to my wife (Brazilian citizen) to receive the money to her account and then use it for real-estate investments? Would it be more beneficial (from tax perspective) that I (non-Brazilian) open a bank account in Brazil and transfer money to that account from the USA? Thanks, MS
